Kind Its Not Easy the Doctor Doctor Who
I don't know about you, but I'm finding it increasingly difficult to remain positive nowadays. We're always inundated with the horrifying and downright depressing state of things.
It's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but I know someone who specializes in infusing inspiration in everything he (and she) does. Doctor Who 's The Doctor, of course!
So, in the spirit of keeping spirits aloft, I've compiled a list of my favorite 10 inspiring quotes fromDoctor Who. My hope is you'll find just what you need in these nuggets of wisdom to maintain positivity.
Keep your eyes fixed to that light, because it's there, my friends.
"I am and always will be the optimist. The hoper of far-flung hopes, and the dreamer of improbable dreams." – 11th Doctor
The above quote is my all-time favorite. Not to mention, the 11th Doctor has always been a wellspring of inspiration for me. Perhaps it's due to his over 900 years of time-traveling or the sage aura he emanates.
Regardless, Eleven has a knack of knowing what to say at the right time. There's nothing wrong with seeing the glass as half full, nor is there anything wrong with dreaming seemingly "improbable" dreams. Never lose the romantic in you. Cling tight to that.
"The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don't always spoil the good things or make them unimportant." – 11th Doctor
There's Eleven again – coming in hot with the powerful wisdom! This is a friendly reminder to recall the good times. Just because bad things happen, doesn't mean the good things are cancelled out. Life is all about balance – just like with the Force!
See how I combined fandoms there? I've always pictured the Doctor traveling in the TARDIS through a galaxy far, far away…
"You don't just give up. You don't just let things happen. You make a stand! You say no! You have the guts to do what's right, even when everyone else just runs away." – Rose Tyler
Alright, this is a companion quote, but I think it's a damn good one to sequester away in the mind bank. The Doctor loves to do what's right – it's kind of his (and her) thing.
Sometimes you'll be standing solitary in situations like the above but regardless, you should always do the right thing. Always.
"Because every time you see them happy you remember how sad they're going to be. And it breaks your heart. Because what's the point in them being happy if they're going to be sad later? The answer is, of course, because they are going to be sad later." – 11th Doctor
What if life was just a heaping helping of good times and problem-free circumstances? No lows – all highs? If this were the case, then we'd cease to really celebrate said good times.
As much as the lows pain us, we need them. Otherwise, we would be desensitized to those aforementioned highs.
"Never be cruel. Never be cowardly. Remember, hate is always foolish and love is always wise. Always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind." – 12th Doctor
Good gravy, the 12th Doctor is my favorite. His infinite wisdom is never lost on me and this quote is no exception. Choose love and kindness, friends. You won't regret it.
"Letting it get to you. You know what that's called? Being alive. Best thing there is. Being alive right now is all that counts." – 11th Doctor
Now, I think this quote best applies to our current predicament. Perfectly too, I might add. When the light seems completely out of reach, we must hold true to this fact: this too shall pass.
Not only that, but you're alive right now. You're breathing. That's a miracle! You're getting up each day and living your life.
"Great men are forged in fire. It is the privilege of lesser men to light the flame." – The War Doctor
Oh,John Hurt. His loss still affects me to this day. Dare I say that The War Doctor is actually one of my favorite Hurt performances?
This quote is a reminder that times of turmoil are when our mettle is tested. We can either choose to learn from these tumultuous experiences or we can succumb to the pressure. Choose growth.
"Everything's got to end sometime. Otherwise nothing would ever get started." – 11th Doctor
I just revisited this quote while compiling this list and it's just what I needed to read. All good things must, inevitably, come to an end.
Just think about all the wonderful possibilities that may never come to fruition if everything remains stagnant and permanent. Life ebbs and flows. Who are we to impede that?
"There's no point in being grown up if you can't act childish sometimes." – 4th Doctor
As a creative individual, I can't see myself ever properly "growing up." If age is more of an internal state of being, then I feel like I'm 21 years old again. Well, depending on the day.
Regardless, never lose that childlike sense of wonderment. Don't let everyday life morph you into a jaded adult. Build a blanket fort. Have a sleepover. Both of these acts are immensely easy to accomplish right now. You don't even have to leave your home!
"You know, the very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common: they don't alter their views to fit the facts. They alter the facts to fit their views." – 4th Doctor
Boy, oh boy, does the above quote ring true. So true. In today's age of "fake news" and where truth becomes subjective, it's crucial to remember that facts are real, substantial evidence.
Nothing that can, or should, be molded to fit personal narratives. With great power comes great responsibility, folks. You can thank Uncle Ben and the Doctor for that.
