Valentine Day Blues Show in Montgomery Al 2020

If you're looking for the perfect Valentine's Day weekend getaway, without having to go far away, the days ahead have some special offerings around Montgomery.

Here are 7 ways to celebrate this year:

Go out for a romantic dinner

Fair warning: These dinners fill up fast, so act accordingly in order to secure seats.

Central restaurant in downtown Montgomery.

Central, 129 Coosa St., is planning a "3 Days of Valentine's 2022." According to the restaurant, their Valentine's menu will be available this Friday, Saturday and Monday, 5:30-9 p.m. Starters of seafood fritto mitso or beef carpaccio, entrees of lobster and noodles or 10 oz. filet mignon, and dessert of chocolate and strawberry molten cake.Call 334-517-1155 or go online www.central129coosa.com to make reservations.

The Capital City Club will feature music by area favorite Ron Handy.

Capital City Club, 201 Monroe St., Suite 2100. High atop Montgomery's skyline in the RSA Tower, the Capital City Club will present "A Night of Love" on Saturday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., featuring live music by Ron Handy. D'Road Cafe, 121 Montgomery St., is offering two different international flavors this weekend. Saturday will be tastes from the Caribbean — red snapper en papillote, sunset mahi mahi and mussels, mix paella, and more. On Monday, they'll offer German dinners. Reservations are required, and can be made by calling 334-328-2938.

The Harriott II Riverfront will have Valentine's Day cruises all weekend.

Valentine's cruises aboard the Harriott II: There are four days of love ahead on the Harriott II riverboat in Montgomery, with Valentine's dinner cruises Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday at 6:30 p.m.These are sold as couple's tickets for $155, and the two-hour cruise on the Alabama River includes dinner for two (garden salad, shrimp cocktail, baked chicken, roasted potatoes with peppers and onions, steamed whole green beans, roll and strawberry shortcake). The evening also includes roses, commemorative champagne flute, climate controlled reserved seating and cash bar access. Cruises take place rain or shine. Itta Bena, 1801 Eddie L. Tullis Road in Wind Creek Montgomery, is reserving tables for three "savory evenings" that combine Valentine's dining with the music of Sharron Sings, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 5 to 10 p.m. This will feature a four course meal with choice options will be served in addition to chef's savory Valentine's features. The Velvet Room Bistro, 3526 Eastdale Annex: A night of dining and ambiance is ahead Monday from 5-11 p.m. They're presenting a Lovers Night Out, with a candlelight dinner (salad, bread, entrĂ©e of lamb, steak or salmon, 2 sides, dessert and wine) and a live DJ playing love music from the '80s through the 2000s. Vintage Year, 405 Cloverdale Road, has $60 per person offerings on Friday and Saturday, with lobster bisque or white wine poached pear salad as starters, entrees featuring pan seared duck breast or dry rubbed bison ribeye (you can add a lobster tail for $25 extra), and chocolate soufflĂ© or lavender panna cotta desserts. Get tickets to a big show

The Montgomery Performing Arts Centre, 201 Tallapoosa St.,has a couple of major acts coming to downtown for Valentine's Day weekend.

If you're looking for the amazing classic rock of 38 Special ("Hold On Loosely," "If I'd Been The One," "Second Chance"), they're here Friday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $30-$70.

An Evening of Love will be at MPAC on Saturday, featuring the amazing voices of three-time Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Raheem Devaughn, Grammy-winning R&B and soul artist Chrisette Michele, and R&B and soul singer/songwriter Leela James. The show starts at 8 p.m., and tickets range from $59 to $99.

You can also gift your loved one with tickets to something a little beyond this weekend. This month MPAC has "Cats" on Feb. 16, the legendary Gladys Knight on Feb. 18, The Gatlin Brothers on Feb. 20, Styx with Montgomery's own Tommy Shaw on Feb. 23, and international sensation Celtic Woman: Postcards from Ireland on Feb. 26. Alabama Shakespeare Festival, 1 Festival Drive:If live theater's more your thing, ASF is currently in the middle of a production of the William Shakespeare tragedy "Macbeth," now through Feb. 24. Get tickets at asf.net, or by calling the ASF box office at 334-271-5353.

Intimate nights of music and drink

The Exchange, 202 Tallapoosa St.: One of downtown Montgomery's most active live music venues is The Exchange, which often has acts on both the outdoor patio (5-8 p.m.) and inside in The House Restaurant (6-9 p.m.). This weekend, they'll feature the likes of Lil Jimmy Reed, Lisa Busler, Beth Cooper, Eric Perkins and Steven McCollough.

Queen Meats and Wine, 207 US-82 West, Prattville: A Valentine's Wine and Beer Tasting is happening Friday 6:30-8:30 p.m. It's $10 at the door, and light finger foods will be served. allevents.in

Aura Lounge Montgomery, 5480 Atlanta Highway: If you're all alone, you don't have to be. There's a Valentine's Day Singles Night Out on Friday. Come meet, mingle and flirt with other singles. Doors open at 8 p.m., and there's no cover until 10 p.m.

The Sanctuary, 432 Goldthwaite St.: You never know just who you might bang heads with Saturday at theValentine's Day Massacre concert. It's $10 to get in at this all-ages show. Doors open at 7 p.m., and music starts at 8 p.m. featuring Septarioan of Opelika, I Am Hostile of Montgomery, All It Does Is Die from Columbus, Ga., and Jaeger of Atlanta.

Crafting flowers & candles

Co-Lap Collective, 215 N. Perry St., Montgomery: Got a group of gals looking to hang out and create? "Galentine's Day" is Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. They'll be making fresh flower arrangements while listening to music. General admission is $45, and a dozen red roses is $30. Lovie's Candle Company, 215 N. Perry St., Montgomery: Wax, Wicks and Hits is a post-Valentine's Day event. This candle making event is Tuesday from 1-3 p.m., and is for ages 21 and up. Get active with your special someone

Civil Axe Throwing, 39 Dexter Ave., Unit 2: Want to have fun and work out like a lumberjack? Civil Axe Throwing in Montgomery is a place to test skills for you and your partner by throwing axes at large wooden targets. You can book a session online at civilaxethrowing.com/montgomery. They're open Wednesday and Thursday from 3-10:30 p.m., Friday from 3-11:30 p.m., Saturday from 12:30-11:30 p.m., and Sunday from 11:15 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

Take in the scenery together

Enjoy the outdoors, and even bring your pets, at Blount Cultural Park in Montgomery.

Blount Cultural Park, 1 Festival Drive: Montgomery has a wealth of parks, and Blount Cultural Park at 1 Festival Drive is an amazing place to take a stroll or drive through, and maybe have a Valentine's Day picnic lunch. Along with rolling green hills and ponds, this 77 acre park is also home to both the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts. There's also a dog park, if you'd like to bring your canine companion along to run free for a bit.

Capital City Club, atop the RSA Tower: Montgomery also has a beautiful skyline. If you'd like a vantage point to see it, probably the best is from the terraces of the Capital City Club. So if you're planning on going to their Night of Love on Saturday, please remember to take in the view.

View from the parking deck: A free spot that offers both a skyline view and a good look at the Alabama River is from the top level of the parking deck on Molton Street, next to the bus station. If it's open (and occasionally it isn't), there's a walkway to an elevator that leads down to the riverfront. The elevator also lets out at a terrace that overhangs the river, and offers a beautiful view.

Got kids? Make it a family night

Saturday is Sweethearts Day and National Pygmy Hippo Day at the Montgomery Zoo.

The Montgomery Zoo and Mann Wildlife Learning Museum, 2301 Coliseum Parkway:The zoo will celebrate love and hippos on Saturday during Sweethearts Day and National Pygmy Hippo Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Adults who purchase a regular daytime admission will receive one free child admission. Pygmy Hippo Day activities are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The zoo is open 7 days a week, and will be open on Valentine's Day. Visit montgomeryzoo.com or call 334-625-4900.

Go see a movie: Of course, you can enjoy a movie and all that delicious buttery popcorn and snacks. Area theaters will be open on Valentine's Day, and there are a couple of romance films available — "Marry Me" and "Redeeming Love." (Warning: If you bring the kids along, they'll likely want to see "Sing 2" or the new Spider-man. You might have a shot at "Marry Me" if you tell them it has the real life version of Lightning McQueen from "Cars".) Capri Theatre, 045 E. Fairview Ave: If you want to spend Valentine's Day diving into the social climate, Capri Theatre is showing the film "Who We Are: A Chronicle of Racism in America" this weekend. Shows are Friday 1 p.m., 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Monday at 4 p.m. Visit capritheatre.org or call 334-262-4858.

Go bowling: This can can be a fun night for couples, families and groups, and Montgomery has two places to knock pins down — Bowlero, 1661 Eastern Boulevard, and Bama Lanes, 3020 Atlanta Highway. There's also the Bama Lanes in nearby Prattville, 1714 E. Main St.
